When you live in a home managed by Haderslev Boligselskab, it is important to us that you feel safe and secure in your home. And it can actually be said quite simply: always have contents insurance, set up smoke alarms, never grill indoors, lock your home and use neighbor help.
Remember the contents insurance
It is important that you have private contents insurance. It can be expensive not to be insured or to be underinsured if your home is damaged by, for example, fire. Your housing company only covers damage to the property itself and not your private contents or costs for possible relocation.
It is therefore a good idea to know the value of your contents so that you get the right coverage and are neither over- nor under-insured.
Avoid fire
Every year 70-80 people in Denmark die in a fire, and up to 82% of them did not have a smoke alarm. So the very first piece of advice is:
- Get a smoke alarm.
- Feel free to put one up in every bedroom.
- Test the smoke alarm once a month.
- Change the battery once a year.
Avoid burglary
You can help minimize the risk of burglary in your home.
On average, almost 90 burglaries are committed in Denmark every day all year round, and far less than 10% of them are solved. Thieves simply have it too easy – but small things can make a difference so that thieves don't invite themselves into your home.
- Turn on the lights in a few rooms and leave your radio on when you're not home in the evening.
- Ask your neighbor to keep an eye on the home and empty the mailbox regularly when you are away for several days.
- Make sure doors and windows are securely closed and locked when you leave your home.
- Think about what the thief can see through your windows. Place valuables so that they are not visible from the outside.
Neighborhood help is generally an effective way to prevent burglaries and create more security in the area. It can prevent one in four burglaries.
