Your rights

When you live in a rented public housing unit, you have certain statutory rights that neither your housing department nor the housing company can change.

You have the right to…

... to use the leased property as the only one – you have the so-called right of use. Only in very special cases is the landlord allowed to enter the leased property.

... to make installations in your home. However, you must notify the Haderslev service center before carrying out the work. Read more about the installation right here

... to install a radio and TV antenna/satellite on the property - under special circumstances - according to the housing association's instructions.

...to make improvements to your home and receive financial compensation for them when you move – as long as you can document the expenses you have incurred. This is called the right of disposal. Read more about the right of disposal here

...to exchange housing with another resident. Read more about home exchange here

...to sublet up to half of the home's rooms for up to two years, as long as the total number of residents does not exceed the number of rooms. Read more about subletting here

… to continue the tenancy if your spouse or someone else you live with dies, as long as you have shared a household with that person for at least two years prior to their death. The same applies to your spouse if you die.
